The Prodigal Tripper

Yes, I’ve been absent for a long, long time.  To be honest, I haven’t really been inspired or felt much like writing.  Have I traveled and experienced good food?  Yes, most certainly!  But I just haven’t been in the groove and kind of lost my mojo for a while.  So in an effort to kick myself in the butt, I am going to see if I can get back in that groove and start writing again.

Today I experienced a new food truck for me, and while I can’t say it inspired me, it at least got me thinking about writing and pushed me to get something down.  The Lobos Truck (http://thelobostruck.com/) was parked down the street from my office, so I decided to check it out.  They serve comfort food (i.e., burgers, fries, mac & cheese, etc.).  Their twist on it, however, is their fries:  the wachos.  What’s a wacho you ask?  Well, they take their potatoes and “waffle” cut them.  Think thick chips cut criss-cross.  Then they doctor them up with toppings, etc.  I didn’t try their wachos, per se, but I did have the wacho fries plain, along with a burger.

The specific burger I chose was the BBB:  Beef, Bacon and Blue Cheese – three of my favorites!  The burger was your basic beef patty, seasoned reasonably well, topped with some incredibly thick, but crispy and chewy bacon, and slathered with very melty blue cheese.  Together, the made a homerun for a burger.

The fries were very, very crisp – just how I like them.  And they were well flavored.  The downside was that they were a tad on the greasy side.  I enjoyed them nonetheless.

Again, not exactly an inspiring meal, but a good, hearty meal with good flavor, and enough to spark a little ember to get me to start writing again.  Tomorrow night my friend Thom and I are hitting the food trucks at Burbank High School’s parking lot to see what they have on offer, and maybe see if there is some inspiration there.
