I'll Take My Pierogies Loaded, Please

Bored with frozen meals and leftovers, today I opted for the food truck down at Fox Plaza for something new and interesting.  Steel City Sandwich (www.steelcitysandwich.com) was in play.  They tout their Pittsburgh roots and cuisine.  One thing that drew me to them was that they offer homemade pierogies.  I haven’t had pierogies in ages!  So that’s what I decided on before I even got there.  I knew it would only be more of a snack, so waiting in line, I decided to throw in the Toasted Meat Sticks.

When I placed my order, I chatted up the girl at the window.  She told me that the pierogies were her grandma’s recipe and they made them fresh in the truck.  I went full bore and ordered the Loaded Pierogies (two pierogies topped with shredded cheddar, sour cream and bacon – I left off the onions).  Her grandma had a good recipe.  The filling was creamy and just melts in your mouth.  The cheese, sour cream and bacon all add that extra umph.  I could have eaten several more!

The Toasted Meat Sticks were breadsticks that they had quartered and piled on their 5-meat sauce.  I am curious as to which meats were used.  I detected sausage and beef, and I think some ham, but not sure what else was in there.  The sauce was very tomato-y had a little spicy kick to it too.  It was very delicious and definitely helped fill me up.

Next time I will definitely try one of their sammies – but the pierogies were talking to me today.

Now, my disappointment/complaint:  they only had two people working the truck – one doing all the cooking, the other taking orders, finished plates and calling out names for ready orders.  The line moved at a glacial place.  I waited at least 20 minutes, and I was only about 5 back in line.  I would recommend they find a way to move the line a little more efficiently as the line was even longer when I left and wasn’t moving much faster.

Another problem – not theirs really, but I need to call it out.  Hey you….yeah you guys from the Fox Plaza Building who butted in line!  Yeah, I’m talking to you.  Your friend was in front of me at the window and you came down and asked him to order for your team.  There were 20 people in line behind him who had waited longer.  You guys are a**holes!  If I had been in a different mindset, I would have made a spectacle since you were being incredibly rude to everyone else and showed no respect…..and you acted rather cavalier about it too – as though you were entitled to it.  If I catch you doing it again (I remember your faces) you can be sure I’ll call you on it!

(I feel better now.)
