Trucks in NoHo

I recently discovered that my neighborhood hosts food trucks every Friday night in a parking lot down the street from my apartment (www.nohotruckfest.com).  This past Friday I finally got a chance to walk on down and check it out.   They host four to five trucks each week.  The one I made a beeline for was Slummin’ Gourmet (www.theslummingourmet.com).  I hadn’t had them yet, and their menu intrigued me.

I was torn between having their Kobe beef sliders and the shredded duck “Ropa Vieja” tacos.  I asked the girl at the window which she would recommend.  She said the sliders are good, but if you like duck, the tacos were the way to go.  She was not kidding.  These tacos had a generous helping of shredded duck meat and complimented with sweet peppers, onions, cilantro and cotija cheese on a flour tortilla.  Juicy and well flavored are good descriptors.  I can highly recommend them if they have them on offer (the menu changes up).   Compared to the duck tacos I had from Flavor Rush at the Santa Anita race track, these were far superior.

I also accompanied the tacos with their Garlic Manchego Curly Fries.  Yummmm….garlicy and cheesey.  Also very crisp….which is how I prefer my fries.  What was surprising was how generous the portion was….I mean, it was huge!  I really wasn’t anticipating such a large serving.  I wound up eating barely half, and I hate to waste food, but oh well.  I went up to thank the girl for the recommendation and give her the thumbs-up, and also to let her know that they might want to offer the option of smaller portions on the fries.  She told me they do….which wasn’t stated on the menu, so it disappointed to find that out after the fact.

Coming up next week are the following trucks:  B&R Burgers; Crepe de Ville; All American Gourmet Grill; Sweet E’s; Attach of the Killer Carnitas; and Organic Oasis.  I have the feeling I am going to be torn…..
